Please join us in congratulating Sherry Ault for earning the privilege of “40 Under 40!” We are so proud of her accomplishments.

Sherry contributes her journey to several mentors. When asked “What Knoxville Business Leader do you look up to most?” she responded, “I was very fortunate early on to have Mark Schimmenti, designer and educator, in my corner. After college as I was interviewing, he offered connections that, at the time, I did not understand. When I graduated, he made introductions to extremely impressive people that opened major doors. I’m also very lucky to have so many mentors that have helped to mold me. While in college and early in my career, I had the fortune of working at McCarty Holsaple McCarty, Inc. I truly felt like I had a family there. The principals – Doug, David, and Jeff – showed me true leadership skills. Stewart and Scott were quick to teach me design and time management. But it was John Gaddis and John Hockensmith who spent endless hours with me and probably made the most impact. John Gaddis taught me to have patience for the process and helped me recognize my passion for coordination between trade contractors. And John Hockensmith drew details over and over and over again to answer my endless questions of how a building is built. I don’t think they understand their great impact on young designers.

We are fortunate to work alongside her and be a part of her journey.
